Preparations for the All-India Tiger Census 2026

Baripada: The groundwork for the All-India Tiger Census 2026 is officially underway in Similipal, recognized as the second-largest biosphere reserve in Asia.

Recently, a preparatory meeting took place at the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) office, bringing together specialists from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and officials from the Forest Department.

This nationwide tiger census, which occurs every four years, will span six months.

The initial phase is set to kick off in October, right after the monsoon season, with camera monitoring scheduled to begin in December.

According to Prakash Chand Gogineni, the Field Director of STR, the final data will be submitted to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) by March 2026, with the census report anticipated to be released in 2027.
